This May we’re promoting the importance of mindfulness and relaxation: reminding you why it’s needed to help combat the harmful effects stress can have on our everyday lives.

So, what does it actually mean to be mindful?
Mindfulness isn’t always sitting crossed legged listening to meditation music. It’s being able to recognise and listen to what your body really needs. Taking time out from your schedule to rest and recharge allows you to step back into your routine with a renewed sense of focus, confidence and more positive outlook on life.
Whether it’s a well needed spa day to relax and revive your body and mind, a massage to alleviate the unwanted side effects of stress or a manicure as a pick me up, we’re here to help. While you are a guest at our spa, you will receive expert guidance, care and homecare advice no matter what your current situation is. Sauna & Steam Rooms
Saunas are a brilliant way to reduce stress levels you may feel on a day to day basis. The heat from the Sauna helps the body to release endorphins; a feel good chemical that has been proven to reduce the effect of stress, whilst also aiding sleep. The wet heat from the steam room thins and opens the mucous membranes in the body, which helps to relieve the pressure. This can be beneficial for anyone who’s feeling slightly under the weather or suffers from asthma. In addition to this, the use of the steam room increases metabolism which can aid with weight loss.

Our Advice: Before your spa session, take a seat in The Relaxation area and try and focus only on your breath. This will help calm your body and mind and will prepare you for the health benefits of using the spa. Any negative or stressful thoughts that pop into your mind imagine they blow away & disappear as fast as you think of them. Breathe in through your nose for 5 seconds, hold that breath for 4 seconds and release the breath for another 5 seconds. Repeat throughout your day as necessary.

Cortisol is the body's response to stress, and massage therapy lowers it by as much as 50%. At the same time, massage provides many benefits and can also increase the levels of serotonin and dopamine, which are both neurotransmitters that help stabilize your mood.

Regardless of where you carry tension, studies have shown that massage increases your body's levels of oxytocin and serotonin, which results in lowered stress. The feeling of relaxation created by regular massage therapy also lowers your blood pressure and elevates your mood. Massage therapy can act to cleanse the body of impurities. It can, for example help break down built up toxins or waste in muscles and has a calming effect on anxious clients.
Our Advice: Leave your worries at the treatment room door. While receiving your massage, avoid thinking or dwelling on current stressful life matters. Instead relax and clear your mind.
