FAQ'sWhat do I need to bring with me?
If you’re coming to use the Spa Experience you’ll need to bring your swimwear with you - we’ll provide you with robes, footwear and towels. (For health and safety reasons we ask guests not to bring their own footwear).
In all our showers we have complimentary shampoo, conditioner and body wash, and the changing-rooms are equipped with salon standard hair-dryers. We even provide fabulous body lotion to leave you feeling silky soft from top to toe!
What time should I arrive?
We recommend that you arrive 15 minutes before your first appointment, this gives you time to fill in your Health Card (you’ll only have to do this on your first visit) and to get changed ready for your treatment or Spa Experience session.
What should I take into the Spa Experience?
We recommend that you leave all your personal possessions in your locker. We also recommend removing jewellery as it can become hot and uncomfortable in the sauna and steam rooms.
Mobile phones are strictly forbidden in the spa! Please leave phones switched off in your locker.
We serve a wide selection of hot and cold drinks, and there is chilled water available in the Spa Experience - all drinks are complimentary so there’s no need to bring money or water bottles into the spa.
For health and safety reasons we ask you not to bring your own face or body products into the spa.
Can I book a treatment on the day?
We always recommend booking treatments in advance to avoid disappointment, however please check with reception on arrival and they can advise you of availability.
Why do I need to fill in a Health Card?
We need to ensure that you are fit and well before you use the Spa facilities or receive treatments. Some medical conditions may prevent you from using certain facilities or having specific treatments, as these could be detrimental to your health. If you are having treatments, your therapist will also use the information on your Health Card to ensure you gain the maximum benefit from your treatment.
What is included in my treatment time?
Your treatment time includes your consultation and aftercare advice. These are both vital elements of your treatment to ensure you receive the most beneficial treatment on the day and that you know how best to prolong the benefits once you leave.
What should I do if I’m uncomfortable during my treatment?
Your comfort is of the utmost importance to us. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable during your treatment please be sure to inform your therapist at the time so they can make any necessary adjustments.
Is there a minimum age?
Unfortunately we are unable to offer treatments or use of the Spa facilities to people under the age of 16 during our usual opening times. Please note, for their own safety and out of consideration for other guests, clients are politely asked not to bring babies or young children with them for appointments.
Can I use my own beauty products in the Spa Experience?
We ask our guests to refrain from using their own products in either the Spa Experience or Relaxation area.
Why isn't there a Jacuzzi?
As the world’s oldest Victorian Turkish Bath and a listed building, we have kept our Spa Experience true to it’s original design and facilities.
Where do I go first?
After you’ve been ‘checked-in’ at reception our team of Spa Assistants will give you robes, footwear and locker keys and will direct you to your changing room.
Once changed your starting point is the Relaxation area (don’t worry, you’ll be told where to find it!) If you’re using the Spa Experience the Spa Assistants will meet you here and take you on a tour of the Turkish Baths, explaining the benefits and recommended use of each area. The Relaxation area is also where your Therapist will collect you for any treatments you’ve booked, all you have to do is make sure you’re back in Relaxation a few minutes before your treatment is due to begin (there are clocks in both the Relaxation and the Spa Experience) If you can’t remember what time your treatment is at, simply ask the Spa Assistants and they’ll check for you.
Can I order food?
Freshly prepared light lunches are available at £10 per person. Please note, if you would like lunch during your visit to the Spa we ask that you book this in advance.
What should I wear during treatments?
During treatments you can wear your own underwear or bikini bottoms, alternatively we provide disposable underwear (it might not look very sexy but it does prevent you getting oil or other products on your own!)
Please don’t feel that you need to change out of damp swimwear before your treatment as there will be an opportunity for you to do this after your therapist has taken you to your private treatment room.
To ensure you feel comfortable throughout your treatment your therapist will use towels to cover you, just exposing the part of the body they are about to work on.
Do you have a double treatment room?
Our treatment rooms are designed for one treatment at a time, and as a listed building unfortunately we are unable to alter this. However we will try to accommodate requests for similar treatment times wherever possible.
Can I make a group booking?
Spa 1877 can accommodate groups of up to 5 people during our spa sessions. We are a small spa and we offer a calm and relaxing experience, we try to limit large groups because it can be difficult to maintain a quiet environment which can impact on other guests. For larger group bookings or a livelier experience please see our Exclusive Hire information. We advise making group bookings 6-8 weeks in advance to avoid disappointment.
Is the Spa Experience suitable during pregnancy?
Unfortunately, the Spa Experience is not suitable during pregnancy due to the varying of temperature. The Relaxation Lounge and many treatments including our Maternity Treatments can still be enjoyed. Please contact us directly to find out which would be best suited depending on the trimester.
